How to Begin Painting Furniture Living in a Log Cabin...

It was a simple request during the fall of 2019. "Could you try to paint this for me?", our daughter-in-law asked. On Pinterest she had found a small end table painted in a rich Cobalt blue (my favorite color) and turquoise with a splash of patina. I had never before painted furniture but have always been rather artsy/crafty, so I wasn't hesitant. After all, I had taken art classes in high school and one in college so understood just enough about color to get me interested. The inspirational photo made mention of chalk paint as the medium, so off to a local retailer of a name-brand I went. I then watched a ton of videos about chalk painting furniture especially "Brushed by Brandy" and "Bella Renovare". Then I bravely began.

The first piece was an end table I painted in blues and silver which immediately sold the day it was listed. The second piece was a nightstand I painted with patina paints. The nightstand I felt was good enough to post in a chalk paint forum. It was a huge enough hit to gain my confidence. The painting bug soon consumed one side of our two-car garage, became self-meditative therapy after a long day in the healthcare world, gave me creative friends from around the world and also put a bit of jingle in my pocket.

Now for the log cabin mention. Our log home is my family home of which my parents and we four children built in 1977 here in KY. I was a sophomore in high school then (seems like yesterday) and wasn't too hip on building a house. Yet as the eldest of my siblings, a lot of the construction involved that of my younger brother and myself. Although I wasn't a fan of residential construction back then, I love and appreciate this place now. It's where my now husband proposed to me 40+ years ago, all four of our adult babies and our two grandchildren have childhood memories here. It's still a home of memory-making as both of my parents and three sibs are alive and well and visit often.

My Logo: my logo represents three personal aspects: my favorite color, my family home and its memories and my career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner using "CBC" initials. Additionally, the faith involved in trusting in myself and in God to arrive at a point to have a website!! Crazy!

Pretty pieces painted and then I was hooked!

Not Cabin Fever; Just Painting Passion

Furniture painting in my cozy log cabin is now evening therapy and relaxation. I thoroughly enjoy saving furniture from the burn pile heap whilst creating lasting art. It is a passion with a purpose.
